Today, over 20% of household trash is food scraps. Ramsey County (St. Paul), Minnesota Environmental Health department needed a way to educate their residents on how to recycle these food scraps and why this is an idea whose time has come.
Governmental/Environmental Health
Rivertown Communications worked with Ramsey County staff, and the staff of the county recycling center, to produce a short public service video to educate county residents on how to recycle food scraps and why they should. Rivertown Communications created a script, designed infographics illustrating the recycling process, and videotaped professional actors demonstrating the steps to recycling food scraps. Our crew visited the modern county recycling center to tape the recycling process, from the receiving of food scraps to the creation of compost to using this compost to enrich the soil and gardens in Ramsey County.
The Ramsey County Environmental Health/ Ramsey Recycles is a combined department integrating the health professionals from Ramsey County (Minnesota) and those from the City of St. Paul.
All residents living in Ramsey County and surrounding areas, including households, schools, and food service organizations. To reach the largest audience possible we produced version in Hmong, Somali, Karen, Spanish and Oromo.
Our client, Tara Roffler of Ramsey County Environmental Health said it best; “We have received positive feedback about the video from a number of our colleagues and professionals who work in the environmental health. They have told us that the video met our original project goal of accurately explaining the food scraps collection and composting process in a way that was accessible and easily to understand. We are pleased with the video and believe it has been an effective communication tool for us.”
“I just wanted to let you know that our food scraps video received the silver award in its category from the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators. Hooray! Thank you to you and your team for your creativity and talent in producing this great video!”
