Stearns County (MN) was experiencing a series of food borne illnesses caused by improper storage, handling and serving of meals in county restaurants. To address this serious problem, Stearns County Environmental Services contracted with Rivertown Communications to develop, with their experts, a series 23 on-line training modules on all aspects of food safety. The modules are hosted in our Inspire LMS®, which provides the ability to track and report on both learner, and facility, mastery of each module. In connection with the training modules, we developed a mobile platform that allows inspectors to access the LMS for learner and restaurant compliance with the assigned training. As parts of Stearns County are quite rural, we programmed the mobile platform to function without an Internet connection, and to sync with the system when Internet becomes available. The completed training modules became so popular that they were released to the general public.
